At SCCAD, we’re always happy to hear from individuals in our community who are interested in the dynamic, rewarding career paths that emergency medical services can offer. Often, requests to learn more about the profession come from young people enrolled in high school, but we also hear from adults considering a career change. No matter your stage in life, we’ll do our best to answer questions that you may have about the EMS education path, general job duties, daily routine, and more.
For individuals still enrolled in high school (or who have recently graduated), our Paramedic Exploration Academy offers a unique opportunity to interactively learn more about the profession. In addition, students in St. Charles County can reach out to the Career Exploration Alliance, with whom we partner regularly for job shadowing and career overview presentations.
Those no longer enrolled in school may contact the District to schedule a time to learn more about EMS education and career outlook – we’re glad to answer any inquiries you may have.
Due to patient privacy laws, SCCAD is very limited in who we may offer the opportunity to ride-along in an observational capacity. Generally, this is limited to individuals enrolled in a qualifying health education program such as EMT, paramedic, nursing, or medical school. Very specific exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. Please note that space is limited, and students enrolled in SCCAD paramedic and EMT programs take priority over those riding in an observational capacity.
