SCCAD’s Surge Division (Platoons D, E, and F) is made up of 36 paramedics and three Battalion Chiefs who manage a combination of non-emergency transfer calls and some 9-1-1 emergencies.
The District works closely with numerous hospitals, long-term care facilities and other medical facilities within our community that routinely need patients transferred to a different level of care. Often, these individuals are being transported for a specialty procedure or test outside St. Charles County. Surge Division paramedics ensure these patients reach their destination safely and are medially monitored throughout the transfer process. Surge Division team members also may be assigned to certain 9-1-1 calls, depending on call volume and time of day.
Paramedics join SCCAD as Surge Division paramedics before moving to the Emergency Division. Surge team members work a 24-hour Kelly Schedule to ensure that our coverage meets the evolving mobile healthcare needs of our community.
