Rapid Access

When responding to 9-1-1 calls, Paramedics occasionally find themselves unable to enter a residence because the patient’s condition has rendered them unable to unlock the door. Because time is a critical factor in emergency medical situations, first responders faced with this situation often must enter the home by force.

Rapid Access Key Box

The Rapid Access program eliminates the need for forced entry by ensuring paramedics have a quick, safe way to enter the home without causing damage.

To participate, a resident places a Rapid Access box purchased from the district near their front door with a key inside. The code for the box is selected by the resident and is stored in the county-wide dispatch computer system. In the event of a 9-1-1 call at the residence, the code is visible to paramedics and fire apparatus assigned to the call.

Rapid Access boxes are available on an at-cost basis. There is no ongoing monthly fee to participate. The District provides delivery and installation of the box at no additional cost as a service to our residents.  To learn more, call 636.344.7600.
